How To Get Started

First, consider the nature of the real estate industry.  A successful career in real estate requires a good sphere of influence, initiative, hard work, persistence, and a love for your fellow man.  And weekends.  And evenings.  Are you, or more importantly, your family ready for this?

Second, start-up costs include a pre-licensing course, State licensing fees, continuing education costs, and perhaps some technological upgrades to your current computer and communication devices.  Then you have expenses related to marketing yourself.  New agents should strive to have a minimum of 6 months living expenses stashed away before entering this rewarding, but highly competitive, industry.

If we haven’t scared you away - requirements for licensure eligibility are:

  • You must be 18 years old or older
  • Have graduated from High School or have a GED
  • You must take and pass a State approved, 75-hour pre-license course. Pre-licensing courses vary in length and may be taken either in person or via home computer courses.  A few of the top, approved schools in Atlanta are;
  • Pass the State licensing exam
  • Select a Real Estate company to work for where you feel comfortable and which offers you
    the tools you need to be successful.  With the plethora of business models and firm sizes available in the Atlanta marketplace, you have a lot of possibilities, so do not be lulled to sleep into thinking one factor such as firm size or the commission ‘split’ is the most important component in locating your new business home.  Interview and ask a lot of questions to find the best fit for YOU! 

New Licensees

Congratulations!  Upon completion of the State requirements for entering our fast-paced industry, step one towards a rewarding career in real estate has been accomplished!  You now must research and select the firm you feel most comfortable and which offers you the tools you need to be successful. 

One thing to consider - One size does not fit all.  In fact, when comparing firms, consider the fact that Fourteen West, REALTORS®’s associates’ production levels, when compared to the four Atlanta area firms that the June, 2006 issue of ‘REALTOR magazine’ identified as the largest producing companies (due to number of agents) during the 2005 calendar year, we were # 2 for individual production in ‘units’ and # 3 in dollar volume!  Not bad for the quiet, smaller firm located at 1411 North Highland Avenue!  (Proof that the size of firm does not always translate to the size of YOUR business!)

If you are people-friendly, possess a good sphere of influence, are not afraid of hard work, and have high ethical standards, Fourteen West, REALTORS® is interested in talking with you!  We are currently looking for full-time sales associates who have the initiative and drive to succeed!

Our office has wireless, T-1 Internet access as well as desktops for agent use.

Another unique aspect of Fourteen West, REALTORS® is that we offer our associates a ‘three-course menu’ from which they select the commission schedule that best suits their needs each year.
